Maintenance Tips
Summer is in full swing and that means one thing for many homeowners – using the pool! Whether you have a private pool or your neighborhood swimming hole, it’s important to keep it clean and in good condition all season long. Here are some tips for owners of houses with pools to help you do just that:
First, test the pH levels of your pool water regularly. You can purchase a testing kit at your local hardware store or home center. Aim for a pH level between seven and eight – this is the range that is most comfortable for swimmers and will help prevent skin irritation.
Next, be sure to vacuum your pool regularly to remove any dirt, debris or leaves that may have blown in. You should also brush the walls and floor of your pool to loosen any dirt build-up.
It’s also important to shock your pool on a regular basis – typically once a week. Shocking helps kill bacteria and algae that can cause problems for swimmers. Be sure to follow the directions on your shock product carefully as over-shocking can be just as harmful as not shocking at all.
Finally, don’t forget to empty your pool skimmer baskets on a regular basis. These baskets collect leaves and other debris that can clog your pool’s filtration system. By keeping them clean, you’ll extend the life of your pool filter and keep your pool running smoothly all season long!
By following these simple tips, you can enjoy your pool all summer long without any worries. So dive in and have fun! Your pool is ready for you!
